In 1848, a significant discovery was made at Les Kennewys when a hoard of approximately 400 Roman coins was unearthed from a pottery vessel. This hoard contained coins that originated during the reigns of emperors Diocletian, Licinus I, and Constantine the Great. These coins were minted in locations such as London and Trier, Germany.
Based on historical context, it is likely that this hoard was buried around the year 350 AD, during a period of significant historical and political changes within the Roman Empire.
Today, the treasure is housed in the Jersey Museum, where a collection of 264 coins from this hoard is on display, providing valuable insights into the history and currency of the Roman era.
