The gilded bronze eyebrow arch with angular inlaid niello, which was discovered, was originally part of an opulent helmet from the Vendelian period, dating approximately from 550 to 750/800 AD. It's fascinating to note that it's possible that two small bronze altars, also found nearby, may have been used as decorative elements on the same helmet.
In the archaeological site of Uppåkra, only fragments of helmets have been found. However, similar examples of helmets from the Vendel period have been unearthed in other regions, including Vendel and Valsgärde in Sweden, as well as Sutton Hoo in England. These discoveries provide valuable insights into the craftsmanship and style of helmets worn during this historical period, showcasing the intricate details and artistic techniques employed by the people of that time.
