Finger ring of copper-alloy

Medieval, 12th-13th century.

Found in the 1970s during excavations of the archaeological section of the Winchester Museum on Victoria Road, Winchester, Hampshire.

The stirrup shape of this ring was popular in the second half of the 12th century and the first half of the 13th. The pointed rim contains traces of enamel that has decayed from centuries in the ground.
