Decorative mount of copper-alloy

Medieval, possibly late medieval.

Found in the 1970s during excavations of the archaeological section of the Winchester Museum on Victoria Road, Winchester, Hampshire.

This item was used to decorate leather goods. The belt, shoe or horse harness (for example) from which it was made rotted in the ground over the centuries, leaving the metal parts loose.
