Arm-ring

This armband ring, dating from the Viking era (876-950), is a remarkable example of craftsmanship from that period. It is created using the weaving-binding technique.

The armband consists of four gold rods that have been intricately woven together. These rods have a circular cross-section that tapers towards the ends. At each end, they are bound with gold wire, which adds to the structural integrity of the piece. The ends of the rods are reduced to a simple biconical knob, providing a functional and decorative aspect to the armband.

Over time, wear and use have taken their toll on the surface of the armband, making it difficult to discern the details of the serrations that were originally present. While serrations are still visible, their exact count and finer characteristics cannot be accurately determined due to the worn surface.

This armband ring serves as a testament to the skill and artistry of the Viking craftsmen who created it, showcasing their ability to work with precious materials like gold and produce intricate, durable, and aesthetically pleasing pieces of jewelry.
