Ribbon Torc

500 B.C.– A.D. 400

Celtic

Silver was a rare commodity in Iron Age Ireland, but this fine torc, or neck bracelet, has been found along with five others like it, also made of silver. The torc is made of a flat strip of silver worked in a series of soft coils. A fine herringbone pattern adorns both sides.

On display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fifth Avenue in Gallery 301.
