Gravestone

This conical tombstone, dating back to the early 11th century, features elements of the Ringerike style. It was found in Bibury, Gloucestershire, England, within the British Isles.

The tombstone is adorned with intricate carvings. On one side, you can find two mustachioed human masks located at the ends of a foliate weave pattern. These masks likely depict human faces and are characteristic of the Ringerike style, which was prevalent during the Viking and Late Anglo-Saxon periods.

On the other end of the tombstone, there are two animal heads. These carvings are significant as they often held symbolic and mythological meanings in Viking and Anglo-Saxon art.

The Ringerike style, characterized by its distinctive ornamentation and intricate designs, is an essential aspect of the historical and artistic heritage of the Viking and Late Anglo-Saxon cultures. This tombstone serves as an excellent example of the craftsmanship and artistic expression of that era.
