Viking Ship Museum in Oslo
At the Bygdøy peninsula, approximately in 10 minutes from the city center of Oslo you can find one of the best viking museums. The Viking Ship Museum is the part of the University Museum of Culture under the University of Oslo. The museum proposes different activities and events.
There are the Gokstad Ship, the Tune Ship, and the absolutely whole Oseberg ship are amoung the best and most known exhibits. Also there are presented fully intact Viking ships and artifacts from the chief grave at Borre.
The museum is opened all week around from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Lofotr Viking Museum in Borg
If you want to understand vikings' life more deep you should visit Borg. Archeologists found here the the largest Viking building that was ever found in Europe. Here you can not only see original artefacts but take part in various activities. During the main season, from June 15 to August 15, you can even to have a dinner served by professionals in Viking costumes. But don't forget to book a ticket in order for not to miss an opportunity to try lamb and wild boar dishes with traditional mead.
In season museum is opened from Wednesday to Sunday starting from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Birka Museum in Stockholm
Birka was founded in late 8th century and very quick it became an important trade port. But at the end of the 9th century it was abandoned. In a few last years Birka became the object of excavations. Here were found graves, iron armor, weapons, and the ruins of a bronze foundry.
Now, the Birka Museum in Stockholm is more archeological spot and it plays an important role in discovering and learning history of that period.
