The Viking age sling was without a doubt the easiest for the manufacturer to produce, simply consisting of a rope and sometimes a leather cup to assist with the loading, the rope was often easily obtained, giving many of the lower class men and women easy access to a formidable weapon. The sling would have been mostly used by the lower class, peasants and farmers, for example. The sling can be used in offensive as well as defensive manoeuvres. Slingers were very manoeuvrable warriors due to their lack of heavy equipment.
