The Húsavík Museum Centre houses a variety of attractions, so don‘t miss the opportunity to experience what it has to offer.
The Centre has two standing exhibitions: A new presentation, Man and Nature – 100 Years in Þingeyjarsýsla which aims to provide insight into man‘s relationship with nature in this region in the period 1850-1950. This interesting aspect of national culture is explored by juxtaposing objects from nature and man-made artifacts. A special room is set aside for young visitors.
The Maritime Exhibition includes a large number of boats and a wide variety of fishing gear, equipment and tools which were used in the fisheries, as well as in seal-hunting and shark-fishing. On the top floor and the ground floor there are galleries with changing exhibitions. Visitors can take a break, find books in the library, examine maps, access the Internet, and so on. The Centre has a small museum shop/café which serves coffee and light snacks.
