Helsinki Oodi Central Library ( Finnish : Helsingin keskustakirjasto Oodi ; Swedish : Helsingfors centrumbibliotek Oodi ), usually called Oodi ( lit. In 2012, the Finnish architecture firm ALA Architects won the library competition and Ramboll Finland won the design competition. ALA Architects won the commission among 543 other competitors. The library was to be a three-storey building with a sauna and cinema on the ground floor. In January 2015, the Helsinki City Council voted for 75-8 to start the construction project. The estimated cost of the new library was 98 million euros, of which the state agreed to pay 30 million euros in connection with Finland's centenary of independence. The City of Helsinki has allocated 66 million euros for the construction project.
On 31 December 2016 it was announced that the new library would be called Oodi in Finnish and Ode in Swedish. The library was built in the Töölönlahti area, next to the Helsinki Music Centre and the Kiasma Museum of Modern Art, and opened on 5 December 2018, on the eve of Finnish Independence Day.
Specially designed robots deliver books to the third place with an area of 17,200 square meters (185,000 square feet) designed for books. The rest of the space is designed for meetings and activities.
